My bones are old; when the time comes to abandon my current mortal vessel, I hope to leave behind a better world than the one I got.

In 2025, Age Verification laws went into effect across several states (USA), which deny access to (mostly small) platforms that cannot comply with the laws' criteria. Spacehey was among the sites affected, and just as it happened earlier in the UK, as of December 2025, most of the [American] platform's users were met with the dreaded "[site] is not available in [your region]". In the span of an hour, I lost a community I have been a part of for almost six years. After panicking for a few minutes, I came to an obvious conclusion: the solution to the restriction is as simple as using a VPN. However, it would be great if it were optional rather than necessary.

Not sure if what angers me most is that people did not heed my warning half a year earlier as things unfolded across the ocean, or that I am forced to witness firsthand how authoritarian regimes censor our freedoms, forcing us into a panopticon, to be eternal slaves working solely to maintain the lavish lifestyles of the elites.

If those in power truly cared about children, they would have already done something about the pedo groups that openly exist on sites like Facebook, or they would have established a dedicated unit to handle adult platforms like pornhub which are profiting off of content featuring the actual rape of minors. Instead, these platforms continue to thrive, while their owners mingle with government officials and billionaires alike. Plotting over our data, food, housing, water, and the oxygen we breathe.

As the political climate in the country intensifies, I find that I must rebel, even if not by physically appearing in manifestations.

I now take space on the web, no longer as a hobbyist, but as someone who has grown tired of the status quo. You should do the same, reader. Join some cybernauting subreddits, build a site as simple or as complex as you desire, join webrings, what matters is that you seek a community of some kind during these times. You are not entirely powerless.
